Water or Pop?

Water is the most common nutritional deficiency in the American population.  Having good hydration is a foundation to having optimal health.  Water has so many important roles in the body.  For example, it transports nutrients, cushions joints and bones, removes wastes and flushes toxins, empowers the body’s natural healing process and so many more.  Without water we couldn’t survive. 

Did you know? That you can go weeks without food, but only days without water.

Take this into consideration: the more pop and other liquids like coffee that gets consumed, the more your need for water increases. When more pop is consumed than water, you are starving your body of water and are becoming more and more dehydrated everyday..and it’s no wonder so many suffer from such health issues like inflammation, sore joints, fatigue, and dizziness.  If the body’s water content drops by as little as 2%, it will cause fatigue.

Here are some early signs of dehydration:

  • -Fatigue
  • -Cravings
  • -Anxiety
  • -Cramps
  • -Irritability
  • -Headaches
  • -Depression

Here are some mature signs of dehydration:

  • -Heartburn
  • -Fibromyalgia
  • -Joint Pain
  • -Constipation
  • -Back Pain
  • -Colitis
  • -Migraines

It is so important to consume water on a daily basis, a good way to figure out an estimate of how much water you should be getting in a day is to take your body weight divided by 2 and that is the minimum # of ounces you should get per day. It’s also important that you constantly sip your water throughout the day, rather than chugging large amounts of water at a time.  Keeping a water bottle near by you at all times, can help you stay consistent in sipping your water throughout the day. 

The average American consumes an average of about 50 gallons of soda per year.  Now this is the average. So, if you are someone that rarely drinks soda, that means there is someone else out there that is drinking your portion and maybe even somebody else’s, which is crazy! It’s no wonder that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.

The active ingredient in coke and all other soda’s is phosphoric acid.  Phosphoric acid has a pH of 2.8.  It can dissolve a nail in about 4 days. 

Not only do coke and all other soda pop contain phosphoric acid, but it is also loaded with tons of sugar and other harmful additives that have absolutely no nutritional value.

So let’s break down the ingredients in a can of coke:

Phosphoric acid:  Leaches calcium from your bones and is a major contributor to the increase in osteoporosis.  It also interferes with digestion making it hard to properly utilize nutrients by neutralizing the hydrochloric acid in your stomach.

Some sources say it takes 52 days to get out of our system after consuming phosphoric acid.

High Amounts of Processed Sugar: All nutritional value has been removed, unlike the many nutrients found in foods containing natural sugars.  Processed sugar depletes your body of minerals and vitamins; like B vitamins, iron and magnesium. 

Consuming excess amount of process sugar also creates a more acidic environment where diseases like cancer thrive, as opposed to a healthy alkaline environment where cancer and other chronic diseases struggle to exist.  Processed sugar is very addictive (studies show it is even more additive than cocaine) and also causes excess inflammation, achy joints, imbalanced blood sugar levels, unbalanced hormones levels, weight gain and obesity, acne, etc.. 

Artificial Dyes and Colors: Food dyes or artificial dyes/colors have no health benefits and are known to cause cancer and various other health issues, like hyper activity, behavioral and learning issues in children; which often leads to them getting diagnosed with ADHD. 

They are banned in most modern countries or come with a strict warning label; but that information is ignored in the US.

Originally made from coal tar, artificial food dyes now come from an unrefined fuel source – petroleum, or crude oil; they have been approved by the FDA to be used within processed food products.  For they are a cheaper alternative to natural dyes (turmeric, beta-carotene, etc..) that last longer in shelves.  (Examples of food coloring include: Yellow 5, Red 40, Blue 1, Red 3, Green 3, Yellow 6, etc..) Artificial (Natural) flavors: While “natural” flavors are derived from plants and animals, they are still made up of mainly chemicals; while the original source of an artificial flavor is a synthetic chemical.  Both artificial and natural flavors are highly processed and contain a multitude of chemical additives that trick your brain and have many negative health effects. 

In fact, there are so many chemicals found within these added flavors, that as many as 100 chemicals can be found in a single natural flavor. 

MSG is the biggest flavor enhancer! While some some companies will include MSG in their ingredient list, many include MSG under the name of “natural flavor”. 

Aspartame: Otherwise known as Nutri Sweet, has 92 different side effects.  Research has brought up  serious questions relating aspartame and certain types of brain cancer.

Aspartame is so toxic, factory workers have to wear hazmat suits when handling it.

Caffeine: A regular consumption or an overload of caffeine can create excess nervousness, irritability, headaches, general anxiety, dizziness, “restless legs”, insomnia, increased heartburn and hyperactivity.

Caffeine is a psychoactive substance.  A psychoactive substance is a drug that affects how the brain works and causes changes in mood, awareness, thoughts, feelings, or behavior.  Examples of psychoactive substances also include alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, and certain pain medicines.  Many illegal drugs, such as heroin, LSD, cocaine, and amphetamines are also psychoactive substances. 

  1. If you need to clean your toilet, use a can of coke.
  2. If you have stains on your vitreous china, use a can of coke to remove the stains.
  3. With a can of coke and a ball of aluminum foil you can clean rust off of chrome.
  4. Coke can clean corrosion from car battery terminal.
  5. If you soaked a cloth with coke you can loosen a rusted bolt.
  6. If you have a load of greasy laundry, use a can of coke to get rid of the grease.

If Coke can do all of these surprising and gross things than just imagine what coke does to your body.

So start drinking that water, and quit drinking that soda pop.  You will be surprised to see how soon you will start to feel better just because you starting consuming water on a daily basis.
