If you haven’t already, check out my previous post (“Modern Day Prophets?”before you continue reading part 2 – 🙂
Since the Word of God confirms that in the last days, there will indeed be modern day prophets, the question then remains..have there been any or are there any?
There have been many so called claimed prophets aka false prophets that have claimed to be Jesus themselves or have predicted the outcome of future events only to be wrong, sometimes multiple times and therefore they have proven themselves to be a false prophet (Deuteronomy 18:20-22) but again I ask, have there been any? Have there been any true Biblically proven prophets?
Praise the Lord, yes there has been. Her name was Ellen G White.
Now before you continue reading, as with anything else I may share or you may hear, I ask you to test her against the Word itself and investigate what she spoke and what she said herself and let her words along with what the Bible said determine for yourself if she really was a prophet of God or not.
1 John 4:1-3 KJV, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. (2) Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: (3) And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”
“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:20 KJV)
Taking the Biblical tests of a true prophet that was mentioned in part 1 (https://remnantofgod.org/Trueprophets.htm ) – let’s see if she passes the test:
1. Every prediction a true prophet of the Lord makes will come to pass – 100% of the time.
Here are just a few predictions she made that came true (none of her predictions haven’t come to pass or come true):
The Civil War – “January 12, 1861, just three months to a day before the first gun was fired on fort sumpter, the Seventh-day Adventist meeting-house in Parkville, Mich., was dedicated. At the close of a discourse by Elder White, sister white gave a stirring exhortation, after which she took her seat in a chair. In this position she was taken off in vision. The house was crowded with people, and it was a most solemn place to be in. After coming out of the vision, she arose, and looking about the house she said:” {GCDB January 31, 1893, Art. A, par. 1}
“There is not a person in this house who has even dreamed of the trouble that is coming upon this land. People are making sport of the secession ordinance of South Carolina, but I have just been shown that a large number of States are going to join that State, and there will be a most terrible war. In this vision I have seen large armies of both sides gathered on the field of battle. I heard the booming of the cannon, and saw the dead and dying on every hand. Then I saw them rushing up engaged in hand-to-hand fighting [bayoneting one another]. Then I saw the field after the battle, all covered with the dead and dying. Then I was carried to prison, and saw the suffering of those in want, who were wasting away. “Then I was taken to the homes of those who had lost husbands, sons, or brothers in the war. I saw there distress and anguish.” {GCDB January 31, 1893, Art. A, par. 2
“Then looking slowly around the house she said:” {GCDB January 31, 1893, Art. A, par. 3}
“There are those in this house who will lose sons in that war.” {GCDB January 31, 1893, Art. A, par. 4}
NOTE – Thomas Cobb, while drafting the Confederate Constitution stated “The almost universal belief here is that we shall not have war.” Alexander Stephens, the vice-president of the Confederation said that a battle with the Union was “nearly dispelled.”
San Francisco Earthquake, April 18, 1906 – “Well equipped tent meetings should be held in the large cities, such as San Francisco; for not long hence these cities will suffer under the judgments of God. San Francisco and Oakland are becoming as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the Lord will visit them in wrath.” {LS 412.2}
NOTE – the above statement was penned in 1902.
“Thursday afternoon, April 12, 1906, Mrs. White left her home to attend the annual meeting of the Southern California Conference, at Los Angeles, and the dedicatory exercises of two sanitariums— Paradise Valley, near San Diego, and Loma Linda, in the San Bernardino Valley. The first few days were spent in Loma Linda, and during this time she had a remarkable experience, which she has briefly described thus:” {LS 407.1}
“While at Loma Linda, Cal., April 16, 1906, there passed before me a most wonderful representation. During a vision of the night, I stood on an eminence, from which I could see houses shaken like a reed in the wind. Buildings, great and small, were falling to the ground. Pleasure resorts, theaters, hotels, and the homes of the wealthy were shaken and shattered. Many lives were blotted out of existence, and the air was filled with the shrieks of the injured and the terrified.” {LS 407.2}
“The destroying angels of God were at work. One touch, and buildings so thoroughly constructed that men regarded them as secure against every danger, quickly became heaps of rubbish. There was no assurance of safety in any place. I did not feel in any special peril, but the awfulness of the scenes that passed before me I cannot find words to describe. It seemed that the forbearance of God was exhausted, and that the judgment day had come.” {LS 407.3}
“The angel that stood by my side then instructed me that but few have any conception of the wickedness existing in our world today, and especially the wickedness in the large cities. He declared that the Lord has appointed a time when He will visit transgressors in wrath for persistent disregard of His law.” {LS 407.4}
“Terrible as was the representation that passed before me, that which impressed itself most vividly upon my mind was the instruction given me in connection with it. The angel that stood by my side declared that God’s supreme rulership, and the sacredness of His law, must be revealed to those who persistently refuse to render obedience to the King of kings. Those who choose to remain disloyal, must be visited in mercy with judgments, in order that, if possible, they may be aroused to a realization of the sinfulness of their course.” {LS 408.1}
NOTE – the above statement was penned two days before the earthquake. On April 18, the earthquake struck! The earthquake lasted for 47 seconds. That 47 seconds was enough for the city to erupt in fire following the earthquake, which burned an area over 12 square miles – a district three or four miles in each direction. The estimated damage ran from $300M to nearly $1B. It is regarded as the deadliest earthquake in American history. The death toll remains the greatest loss of life from a natural disaster in California’s history and high on the lists of American disasters.
That Dairy and Meat would become unsafe to comsume – “Let the diet reform be progressive. Let the people be taught how to prepare food without the use of milk or butter. Tell them that the time will soon come when there will be no safety in using eggs, milk, cream, or butter, because disease in animals is increasing in proportion to the increase of wickedness among men. The time is near when, because of the iniquity of the fallen race, the
whole animal creation will groan under the diseases that curse our earth.” {7T 135.1}
“There is no safety in eating of the flesh of dead animals, and in a short time the milk of the cowswill also be excluded from the diet of God’s commandment-keeping people. In a short time it will
not be safe to use anything that comes from the animal creation.” Unpublished Testimony, July
26, 1898. {PUR November 7, 1901, par. 1}
“From the light God has given me, the prevalence of cancer and tumors is largely due to gross living on dead flesh.” —Extracts from Unpublished Testimonies in Regard to Flesh Foods, 7, 1896.
“The meat diet is the serious question. Shall human beings live on the flesh of dead animals? The answer, from the light that God has given is, No, decidedly No. Health reform institutions should educate on this question. Physicians who claim to understand the human organism ought not to encourage their patients to subsist on the flesh of dead animals. They should point out the increase of disease in the animal kingdom. The testimony of examiners is that very few animals are free from disease, and that the practice of eating largely of meat is contracting diseases of all kinds,—cancers, tumors, scrofula, tuberculosis, and numbers of other like affections.”—Manuscript 3, 1897.
“Those who use flesh foods little know what they are eating. Often if they could see the animals when living and know the quality of the meat they eat, they would turn from it with loathing. People are continually eating flesh that is filled with tuberculosis and cancerous germs. Tuberculosis, cancer, and other fatal diseases are thus communicated.” — The Ministry of Healing, 313, 1905.
1. In 1990, a New York Times Article was published on a scientist that studies the effects of animal fat on the human body, and he concluded that “If you step back and look at the data, the optimum amount of red meat you eat should be zero.”
“The largest study of Western diets and colon cancer ever done has found that the more red meat and animal fat that people eat, the more likely they are to develop this common and deadly cancer. Researchers said the study offered strong evidence confirming a long-held hypothesis that diet was an important factor in determining who got colon cancer.
Earlier studies had shown that when people moved from countries like Japan, where they ate little meat or fat, to countries like the United States, where meat and fat consumption was high, they were more likely to develop colon cancer. But the earlier studies had not conclusively shown that red meat and animal fat by themselves, rather than other dietary or environmental factors, led to the cancer.
The Surgeon General, the American Cancer Society and other groups have advised Americans to eat less meat, but Dr. Walter Willett, a researcher at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston who directed the study, concluded, ‘If you step back and look at the data, the optimum amount of red meat you eat should be zero.’” (https://www.nytimes.com/1990/12/13/us/animal-fat-is-tied-to-colon-cancer.html)
2. In 2015 the World Health Organization (WHO) based on 800 different studies revealed that processed meat is carcinogenic, meaning that it is proven to cause cancer in humans. https://www.iarc.who.int/wp-content/uploads/2018/07/pr240_E.pdf
“The experts concluded that each 50 gram portion of processed meat eaten daily increases the risk of colorectal cancer by 18%.”
3. The China Study – In the later 19 hundreds, a comprehensive study over many years was performed on regions in Asia and some surrounding areas.
Dr. Collins came to find that in populations where animal protein was more highly consumed directly correlated with high/increased cancer rates, and when they ate less animal protein and fats and ate more plants, this actually not only stopped the cancer from growing but “turned off” cancer genes and other genes in the body that had been “switched on” due to diet/lifestyle choices.
This study is so neat! One of my absolute favorites. I highly encourage you to read the book or watch some YouTube documentaries on it. It brings so much insight. It’s such a well done study.
2. A true prophet of the Lord will receive dreams and visions – “And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the Lord will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.” (Numbers 12:6)
As we just read above for point one, she was given countless visions from the Lord.
3,4,5 & 6
3. When in vision there eyes will be open – “He hath said, which heard the words of God, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance , but having his eyes open: (16) He hath said, which heard the words of God, and knew the knowledge of the most High, which saw the vision of the Almighty, falling into a trance, but having his eyes open:” (Number 24:4&16 KJV)
4 & 5) When in “vision” a true Prophet will NOT breathe nor will they have any strength in themselves and will collapse – “For how can the servant of this my lord talk with this my lord? for as for me, straightway there remained no strength in me, neither is there breath left in me.” (Daniel 10:17 KJV)
& 6) Once “touched in the “vision” the Prophet receives supernatural strength – “Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me,” (Daniel 10:18 KJV)
Account # 1: “Frequent mention has been made in this narrative to the visions Ellen White received, but little has been said of the physical phenomena that accompanied these visions and provided those who witnessed them with strong evidence of the work being of God. As she herself was totally unconscious during a vision, we must turn to others who were eyewitnesses of the unusual and thrilling experience. Several who had long acquaintance with her from early years have provided us with vivid descriptions. One such is J. N. Loughborough, who first saw her in vision in 1852 and declared that he had seen her in vision fifty times. He wrote: “In passing into vision, she gives three enrapturing shouts of “Glory!” which echo and re-echo, the second, and especially the third, fainter but more thrilling than the first, the voice resembling that of one quite a distance from you, and just going out of hearing.”
“For about four or five seconds she seems to drop down like a person in a swoon, or one having lost his strength; she then seems to be instantly filled with superhuman strength, sometimes rising at once to her feet and walking about the room. There are frequent movements of the hands and arms, pointing to the right or left as her head turns. All these movements are made in a most graceful manner. In whatever position the hand or arm may be placed, it is impossible for anyone to move it.”
“Her eyes are always open, but she does not wink; her head is raised, and she is looking upward, not with a vacant stare, but with a pleasant expression, only differing from the normal in that she appears to be looking intently at some distant object.”
“She does not breathe, yet her pulse beats regularly. Her countenance is pleasant, and the color of her face as florid as in her natural state.—GSAM, pp. 204, 205.”
Account #2: “Mrs. Martha Amadon, also acquainted with Ellen White from early years, after giving a similar description of what took place in connection with the visions, declared:”
“There was never an excitement among those present during a vision; nothing caused fear. It was a solemn, quiet scene, sometimes lasting an hour….”
“When the vision was ended, and she lost sight of the heavenly light, as it were, coming back to the earth once more, she would exclaim with a long-drawn sigh, as she took her first natural breath, “D-a-r-k.” She was then limp and strengthless.—DF 373, Martha Amadon, “Mrs. E. G. White in Vision.”
Account #3: “Individual visions were marked by various characteristics, some of which will be noted as the stories in which they are involved are told. James White, in introducing Ellen White’s experience in his Life Incidents in 1868, described the visions under four numbered points:”
1. “She is utterly unconscious of everything transpiring around her, as has been proved by the most rigid tests, but views herself as removed from this world, and in the presence of heavenly beings.”
2. “She does not breathe. During the entire period of her continuance in vision, which has at different times ranged from fifteen minutes to three hours, there is no breath, as has been repeatedly proved by pressing upon the chest, and by closing the mouth and nostrils.”
3. “Immediately on entering vision, her muscles become rigid, and joints fixed, so far as any external force can influence them. At the same time her movements and gestures, which are frequent, are free and graceful, and cannot be hindered nor controlled by the strongest person.”
4. “On coming out of vision, whether in the daytime or a well-lighted room at night, all is total darkness. Her power to distinguish even the most brilliant objects, held within a few inches of the eyes, returns but gradually….”
“She has probably had, during the past twenty-three years, between one and two hundred visions. These have been given under almost every variety of circumstance, yet maintaining a wonderful similarity.—Page 272.” {1BIO 123.8}
“In the earlier years of Ellen White’s experience the visions were almost always accompanied by physical phenomena similar to that described in the Scriptures in connection with the respective prophets. In the later years, her work having been established and accepted, the visions were usually given during the hours of the night, as the one described by Daniel in the opening verse of chapter 7: “a dream and visions of his head upon his bed.” Such night visions were briefer, more frequent, but of equal importance and value as the visions given during the hours of the day, accompanied by the physical phenomena.” (1BIO 122.2-123.9)
“It is also the large Bible held in vision in the Harmon home early in 1845. On that occasion, during family prayers, she stepped over to a bureau upon which this large volume rested, and picked it up. Placing it on her left hand, she easily held it at arm’s length for an estimated half hour. During the vision she referred, in short exclamations, to the value of the Word of God. Although in frail health, she was in no way fatigued by the experience.” {1BIO 92.3}
“The account of the experience has come down through the family from Robert and Eunice Harmon to James White, then William C. White. [In a letter written April 2, 1919, to an educator, Sarah Peck, W. C. White declared, “my folks told the story to me.”—DF 732a. Loughborough recounted the incident at the general conference of 1891 (The General Conference Bulletin, 1891, 145) and at the 1893 session (Ibid., 1893, 20)]. It was referred to by J. N. Loughborough, who reported that he got the story from Ellen’s parents, her older sister Sarah, and others (GSAM, p. 236). Ellen White made no reference to the experience, for as she was in vision she had no direct knowledge of what took place. At the time of the event she weighed about eighty pounds.” {1BIO 92.4}
7. A true Prophet will be 100% accurate. there is absolutely no margin for error – “The prophet which prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the Lord hath truly sent him.” (Jeremiah 28:9 KJV)
Of all the prophecies that have been so far predicted, all of them have come true. Praise the Lord!
8 & 9: A true Prophet NEVER gives his private interpretation. He only shares what the Lord reveals. Scripture defines Scripture, not man. – “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” (2 Peter 1:20)
A true Prophet only prophecies in the name of the Lord. He only seeks to glorify the Lord. He will never seek glory to himself. NEVER! – “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. (2 Peter 1:21)
“In these letters which I write, in the testimonies I bear, I am presenting to you that which the Lord has presented to me. I do not write one article in the paper expressing merely my own ideas. They are what God has opened before me in vision—the precious rays of light shining from the throne.” 5T 67.2
“Brother J would confuse the mind by seeking to make it appear that the light God has given through the Testimonies is an addition to the word of God, but in this he presents the matter in a false light. God has seen fit in this manner to bring the minds of His people to His word, to give them a clearer understanding of it.” 5T 663.2
“But I do not ask you to take my words. Lay Sister White to one side. Do not quote my words
again as long as you live until you can obey the Bible. When you make the Bible your food, your
meat and your drink, when you make its principles the elements of your character, you will know better how to receive counsel from God. I exalt the precious Word before you today. Do not repeat what I have said, saying, “Sister White said this,” and “Sister White said that.” Find out what the Lord God of Israel says, and then do what He commands.” {16LtMs, Ms 43, 1901, par. 26}
“This is the treasure that is found in the Scriptures. The Bible is God’s great lesson book, His great educator. The foundation of all true science is contained in the Bible. Every branch of knowledge may be found by searching the word of God. And above all else it contains the science of all sciences, the science of salvation. The Bible is the mine of the unsearchable riches of Christ.” {COL 107.3}
“The word of God should be thoroughly studied. All other reading is inferior to this.” {T17 174.1}
“In giving up His Son, He has poured out to us all heaven in one gift.” {SC 21.2}
“O how I long to see Jesus! I love Him, and the precious promises of His Word warm my soul.” {18LtMs, Lt 170, 1903, par. 7}
10. A true Prophet will look to edify, comfort, and uplift the Church body by his testimony as well as exhort them – “But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. (4) He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church.” (1 Corinthians 14:3-4)
“…but prophesying serveth not for them that believe not, but for them which believe.” (1 Corinthians 14:22)
“The word of God is sufficient to enlighten the most beclouded mind and may be understood by those who have any desire to understand it. But notwithstanding all this, some who profess to make the word of God their study are found living in direct opposition to its plainest teachings. Then, to leave men and women without excuse, God gives plain and pointed testimonies, bringing them back to the word that they have neglected to follow.” 5T 663.2
11. A true Prophet keeps God’s Law, and abides by the testimony of the Bible Prophets as well. If a Prophet does not agree with the Bible Prophet’s or does not keep God’s Ten Commandments, he or she is a false Prophet – “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:20)
“I saw that Jesus did not come to abolish his Father’s law. The ten commandments were to stand fast forever. Adam and Eve broke God’s law and fell, and the family of Adam must perish. God could not alter or abolish his law to save lost man, who had by his transgression fallen so low that God could not accept any effort he might make to keep that holy, just and good law. Jesus saw the degradation of man, and pitied his hopeless condition. All heaven knew that God could not change or abolish his law to save man. Jesus pitied the fallen race and offered to take the wrath of God upon himself that was due to man, and to suffer in his stead. Said an angel, “Did Jesus come to make void the law of God, and by his death abolish it? No, no. If God’s law could have been changed; if it could have been abolished, God would not have given his Son to die a cruel, shameful death.” But the fact of Jesus’ giving his life for man shows the immutability of God’s law. Jesus gave his life to save lost man from the curse or penalty he merited by transgression. He by humbling himself exalted man. He became the stepping-stone to elevate man, that he might lay hold of the virtue of his blood, keep God’s law, and be brought back to eat of the fruit of the tree of life to which Adam and Eve forfeited all right.” {2SG 274.2}
“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin. A man may be a law-breaker in heart; yet if he commits no outward act of transgression, he may be regarded by the world as possessing great integrity. But God’s law looks into the secrets of the heart. Every act is judged by the motives that prompt it. Only that which is in accord with the principles of God’s law will stand in the judgment.” {COL 316.2}
“Passing down through the centuries, we find that there came a time when God’s law must once more be unmistakably revealed as the standard of obedience. Christ came to vindicate the sacred claims of the law. He came to live a life of obedience to its requirements and thus prove the falsity of the charge made by Satan that it is impossible for man to keep the law of God. As a man He met temptation and overcame in the strength given Him from God. As He went about doing good, healing all who were afflicted by Satan, He made plain to men the character of God’s law and the nature of His service. His life testifies that it is possible for us also to obey the law of God.” {8T 207.3}
“The question is often asked. Why do you keep the commandments of God? Did not Jesus come to abolish the law? The Son of God gave the law, and was it given only to be abolished? Did Jesus leave the royal courts of heaven to die upon the cross of Calvary, in order that he might give the world license to break the law? Is there reason in this? Was the wonderful, costly process that the Father and his dear Son underwent, only to abolish the law, and give men perfect freedom to trample it in the dust?—No, no. The Lord’s standard of righteousness remains as firm as his eternal throne. It is his holy law, and because not one precept of this law could be changed to meet man in his fallen condition, the Father consented to give his only begotten Son to die. To abolish the law?—No; but to save the sinner. The cross of Calvary is the unanswerable argument as to the perpetuity of the law of Jehovah. When the great Teacher gave his sermon on the mount, showing the immutability of the law of God, he was expounding the law that he himself gave.” {RH March 21, 1893, par. 1}
“Parents, ask yourselves the solemn question, “Have we educated our children to yield to paternal authority, and thus trained them to obey God, to love him, to hold his law as the supreme guide of conduct and life? Have we educated them to be missionaries for Christ? to go about doing good? Believing parents, your children will have to fight decisive battles for the Lord in the day of conflict; and while they win victories for the Prince of Peace, they may be gaining triumphs for themselves. But if they have not been brought up in the fear of the Lord; if they have no knowledge of Christ, no connection with heaven, they will have no moral power, and they will yield to earthly potentates who have assumed to exalt themselves above the God of heaven in establishing a spurious sabbath to take the place of the Sabbath of Jehovah. The tender mercies of this power will be displayed in prison cells and dungeons. Already preparations are advancing, and movements are in progress, which will result in making an image to the beast. Events will be brought about in the earth’s history that will fulfill the predictions of prophecy for these last days..” RH April 23, 1889, par. 5
“On Sabbath afternoon I had freedom in presenting to the people the necessity of obeying the law of God. It is not enough to say that we believe. We must have that genuine faith which works by love, and purifies the soul. God has given us a perfect standard of righteousness in his law. “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thyself.” This comprehends the whole duty of man to his God and to his neighbor. We owe to God our life, and all that makes life desirable, and when we refuse to render obedience to him, we rob and defraud our own souls. No man can choose his own way without deep ingratitude to God; in so doing he renders to God enmity for love..” RH March 5, 1889, par. 2
12. A true Prophet believes and preaches the incarnation of Jesus Christ. He will preach Jesus as God who came to Earth and put on humanity in order to redeem us all – 1 John 4:1-3
“Such is the character of Christ as revealed in His life. This is the character of God. It is from the Father’s heart that the streams of divine compassion, manifest in Christ, flow out to the children of men. Jesus, the tender, pitying Saviour, was God “manifest in the flesh.” 1 Timothy 3:16.” {SC 12.2}
The incarnation of Christ is a mystery. The union of divinity with humanity is a mystery indeed, hidden with God, “even the mystery which hath been hid from ages.” It was kept in eternal silence by Jehovah, and was first revealed in Eden, by the prophecy that the Seed of the woman should bruise the serpent’s head, and that he should bruise his heel. To present to the world this mystery that God kept in silence for eternal ages before the world was created, before man was created, was the part that Christ was to act in the work he entered upon when he came to this earth. And this wonderful mystery, the incarnation of Christ and the atonement that he made, must be declared to every son and daughter of Adam, whether Jew or Gentile. His sufferings perfectly fulfilled the claims of the law of God. None of the apostles could have filled the deficiency, had there been any.” {ST March 25, 1897, par. 8}
“The entrance of sin into the world, the incarnation of Christ, regeneration, the resurrection, and many other subjects presented in the Bible, are mysteries too deep for the human mind to explain or even to fully comprehend. But God has given us in the Scriptures sufficient evidence of their divine character, and we are not to doubt His word because we cannot understand all the mysteries of His providence. {5T 699.3}
“Ages before His incarnation, Christ distinctly chose His position. He foresaw His life of humiliation, His rejection and crucifixion, His victory over satanic agencies, His victory over death and the grave. He saw the world flooded with light and life and heard the song of triumph sung by the millions rescued from the hold of Satan. {21LtMs, Ms 77, 1906, par. 10}
“Jesus is the foundation, the author and the finisher, of our faith. Why are we so powerless? Jesus lives; and because he lives, we shall live also. He is to us a risen Saviour; not a shrouded Saviour in Joseph’s new tomb, which was closed with a great stone and sealed with the Roman seal. Mourn not as those who are hopeless and helpless; never, under any circumstances, give way to despair; but from grateful hearts, from lips touched with holy fire, let the glad song ring out, “Jesus is risen; he lives to make intercession for us.” Grasp this hope, and it will hold the soul like a sure, tried anchor. Believe, and thou shalt “see the glory of God.” [John 11:40.] {GW92 467.4}
“You may err in judgment, but do not lose your hold on Jesus. He is wisdom, He is light, He is power. He is to you as a great Rock in a weary land. Rest under His shadow.” {4LtMs, Lt 8, 1886, par. 21}
13. A true Prophet will show good works, and have identifiable fruits of a Christian. He/she will have abundant BIBLICAL fruits – Matthew 7:15-20
Not only did Ellen White endure many hardships with a faithful trust in God (as she lost two children and was widowed at 54 years of age), people that knew her and witnessed the grace of Christ in her, knew she was sincere in her care for them and they knew she had a love for Jesus above all else. Not only did she love the Lord but she loved those around her. Her works do follow her and God is the One who is glorified.
14. As mentioned in Part 1, gender makes no difference. Women or men can be prophets of God.
Exodus 15:20, Judges 4:4, 2 Kings 22:14, Nehemiah 6:14, Isaiah 8:3, Luke 2:36, Joel 2:28, Acts 2:16-19
15. Age makes no difference in being a prophet –
“And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: (18) And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:” (Acts 2:17-18)
16. Performing miracles proves nothing – Even Satan has the ability to perform supernatural “healings”, etc. Miracles too need testing.
“For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. (25) Behold, I have told you before.” (Matthew 24:24-25)
“For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.” (Revelation 16:14)
“And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men, (14) And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.” (Revelation 13:13-14)
“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. (22) Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? (23) And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” (Matthew 7:21-23)
